The Matrix -reviewIf you enjoy epic stories, intense action and character development, then it is likely that the Matrix movie series (including the Animatrix animated companion story collection) is one that continues to be an inspiration.

The setting is that of what appears to be our world, circa 1999 (the time of the film’s release) and revolves around the isolated life of Thomas Anderson, AKA “Neo played by Keanu Reeves, an employee of a major software and web design company. Neo is a mild mannered everyday guy by day, but an elite hacker by night who supplements his income by selling illegal programs of his own design to the fringe elements of the electronic underworld.

Neo is also trying to track the movements of a mysterious man known only as Morpheus played by Lawrence Fishburne, one of the most wanted men in the world, who he believes can answer the question gnawing at his soul: What is the Matrix? After a strange turn of events Neo is approached by Trinity, another elite hacker who gives him an opportunity to meet with Morpheus.

12 Angry Men


12 Angry Men1This movie is a 1957 classic drama, written and co-produced by Reginald Rose

The film was completed in less than 3 weeks on a budget which is equivalent to almost 3 million dollars today.

12 Angry Men hit the 28th place in a list of 50 greatest movies played by John Fonda.

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best director and best writing of adapted screenplay, but it did not win.

The movie tells the story of a jury made up of 12 men given the hard job to guilt or acquit a defendant based on the reasonable doubt.

The movie is 96 minutes long ant it’s filmed mostly in the jury room. Only 3 minutes of it are filmed outside of the court house.

The 6 days of a long and complex case of murder in the first degree is shortened up and the real action of the movie starts with the camera catching the serious faces of the jury members when the judge states the importance of the reasonable doubt judgment.

The Godfather


The GodfatherThe Godfather is one of the best American movies ever made. It is a touchstone of the cinema being one of the most widely imitated, quoted and lampooned movies of all times.

The movie is based on the book of Mario Puzzo:” The Godfather” wich is pulpier than the movie but, it does manage to express the power of the novel on which is based on. Realizing that the section two of the book will not fit into the movie Copola decided to incorporate it in part II of the film.

Mario Rezzo was the cowriter with Copolla for the screenplay.
The Grandfather was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and win for: the best Picture, best actor (Marlon Brando) and the best adaped screenplay
Francis Ford Copola deserves all the praise and awards this film have received over the years. Copola assembled a superb cast but also a talented crew. His main character Al Pacino and Brandon Marlo were the best choises he could have for the roles of Vito Corleone and Michael. The film accentuates the importance of the family both biologicall and professional.

The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption was voted by 1.555.775 users of the famous website www.imdb.com as the best movie of all times

This is a 1994 American drama movie, directed by Frank Darabont. It was adapted after the novella “ Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” written by Steven King.

The story takes place in 1947 in Portland, Main. One of the main character, Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins is convicted for two life sentences for supposedly killing his wife and his lover. He is sent to the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Here he meets Elis” Red” Redding played by Morgan Freeman, also sentenced  for life in prison for murdering his wife by cutting the brakes on her car, causing her to die in an accident, his motive being a large life insurance policy settlement.

This is a story of two prisoners that bond over a number of year they spend in prison. The Shawshank Redemption was nominated for Oscar 7 times for best picture, best actor in a leading role, best sound, best film editing, best music and best written screenplay based on material previously produced or published.
